MAUNA WAHINE captures a wahine and her companion, the moʻo, resting among towering peaks and lush greenery. Gigantic yet stealthy, the two quietly watch over their valleys, protecting the ʻāina and all who pass through.

Inspired by the Koʻolau mountains of Oʻahu and the many legends of spirit guardians that reside there, this piece explores the powerful beauty found within the vastness of the mountains. It is a reminder of how small we are in this world—and that, whether seen or unseen, there are always quiet forces watching over and protecting us.
